Technology plays a big part in today’s world. At Ringway Primary School we aim to provide a high-quality computing curriculum which equips children to use computational thinking and creativity to understand this ever-changing world. We also recognise and promote the importance of educating children on how to stay safe online, showing respect for ourselves and others, and this thread runs through our whole computing curriculum.
During their time Ringway Primary School, children will gain key knowledge and skills in the three main areas of the computing curriculum. These are: programming, information technology (using computer systems to store, retrieve and send information) and digital literacy (evaluating digital content and using technology safely and respectfully). In each area, children are encouraged to work collaboratively and demonstrate team work to complete challenges and projects, solving problems and persevering to achieve. The objectives within each strand support the development of learning across the key stages, ensuring children have the confidence, self-belief and a solid grounding for future learning and beyond. Knowledge and skills are mapped across each topic and year group, increasing with challenge as children move through Key Stages.
Children have access to laptops and iPads to ensure that they have the opportunity to use a range of devices and programs. This can be across the whole curriculum as well as in discrete weekly computing lessons. The computing curriculum is also enhanced by Northumberland County Council ICT team. We use this team’s knowledge and expertise to enhance our curriculum by enabling the children access to specialist equipment such as Spheros.
Our approach to the Computing curriculum results in a fun, engaging, and high-quality computing education which gives children the knowledge and skills to support them in everyday life.
